What is a Content Management System (CMS)?
A content management system, or CMS as it is widely known, is a system which allows you to have control over the content of your website.
The aim of a CMS is to allow people who don't have a knowledge of coding and website design to be able to manage their own websites – saving the time, cost and worry of having to ask someone else to do it for you!
Do I need a CMS?
Websites are a vital tool for any business in today's world – and having complete control of the content of your website allows you to make sure that it is as useful as it can possibly be! You can keep your content current – so for example, if you add a service or product to your business, you can easily add the details to your website.
Google and other search engines prioritise fresh and original text – so have a “latest news” section, a blog page, or just updating your text regularly can help keep your page high on the search rankings.
In financial terms, having a website updated regularly by a website designer can easily add up. If you want your website to last for several years, and to be a dynamic platform for your business throughout that time, investing in a CMS at an early stage will help you keep costs down. And if you use Bongo, the costs really will be kept low! Have a browse of our website packages to see what we can offer.
What is Bongo?
Bongo is an exceptionally user-friendly CMS – if you know how to use Microsoft Word, you will be able to use Bongo.
As you can see from the images on the right, it is very similar to MS Word in its appearance. You just highlight the text that you want to change, and then select the icon for the action you wish to take.
To add a new page, you enter the name of your website here and simply click “Add Page”...
To add new text, you'll find a button at the bottom of the page that says “Add a Chunk”...
Once you've selected to “Add a Chunk” you will be given a choice of layouts – columns, use of images, however you would like your page layout – the options are endless...
